Carolinas

They feel that South Carolina deserves everything that happens. They will feint to the right and left and then charge the center to Columbia. When Columbia is conquered the troops start to drink.


When the soldiers first eneter Columbia there is chaos and disorder.

Savannah

The rebels destroyed nearly everything such as railroads and barns to make it difficult.

Savannah Campaign

Sherman siad this quote because he was obsessed with the March to the Sea. The March was far from the north because it was more psychogical than anything else.

Bummers were important because they allowed more food to be brought to the troops.

Sherman Rail Lines were made from rail lines, heated in bonfires and bent into a bow tie shape.

Atlanta Capture

Sherman orders anything of military value in Atlanta to be destroyed but even more than that is ruined. Thirty percent of the city ended up getting burned.

Atlanta Campaign

The Atlanta Campaign helped Lincoln win the presidency due to the success of the battle. The army attacked to drive the confederates east out of tennesee. Milledgeville was important because it allowed the Confederates to get into better position. Johnston was replaced because his defensive strategy was ineffective. Confederates tried to draw the forces into Tennessee to set up the March.

Atlanta Campaign

They attack in prepartaion for a sweep of Alabama and Georgia. The success of this attack led to the reelection of abe lincoln because it swayed the opinions of the demorcrats.

Grant and Shermans strategy


Grant would confront the main confederate army in Virginia and Sherman will attack in Atlanta, the main supply center of the southern war effort. Sherman and his army marched across Georgia and destroyed nearly everything in their path.
The plan started in the northern part of Georgia and finished in the northern part of North Carolina.
